Item Upload Dealer Tool

At 1stdibs.com, a brand new product team was created to support the tools and functions for 1stdibs dealers, and I was the first UX designer to cover this area. Because the team was new, much of the initial work was focused on understanding the space: who are the stakeholders, who are the dealers, what are their workflows, what are their painpoints. The Item Upload tool emerged as a critical area hampered by many limitations and frustrations for both external and internal users.

Assessment

  • Ran a series of interviews and workshops with all the stakeholders in the Dealer Experience organization to gather information on key workflows and painpoints.
  • Systematically investigated each dealer tool and related internal tool.
  • Led a cognitive walkthrough/UX evaluation with the core product team on the Item Upload tool.

Research

  • Ran a workshop with the Dealer account managers to understand key characteristics and painpoints.
  • Gathered quantitative data from the internal data warehouse team.
  • Collated information into a digestible summary for understanding key aspects about the dealers and category verticals.
  • Was a key stakeholder and research consultant for an outsourced Dealer research study led by the mobile product team.

Strategic Development

  • Worked with the lead product manager to assess findings from workshops and user research into a prioritized summary of issues and opportunities.
  • Led working session with the engineering team to assess different approaches for a total code refactor.
  • Worked with the lead product manager to develop a strategic approach for accomplishing a complex, multi-faceted redesign, including making a case for executive buy-in for resources.

Next Steps

  • Executive buy-in was recently granted and the project is currently underway.
  • Creating wireframes and prototypes to explore high-level framework IA improvements.
  • Leading design brainstorm workshops with the product team as well as core stakeholders to investigate tactical UX improvements to individual features.
