My Gallery | Art.com

Role: Lead UI Designer/Product Manager

Saving an item to a personal gallery used to be extremely cumbersome for new users. By subtly incorporating registration as well as making the process easier for existing users, the new design resulted in 63% lift in email acquisition in the first week and a substantial increase in estimated incremental revenue.

After

  • Gallery name suggestion inspires and educates users to create multiple galleries, a feature previously undiscovered by users.
  • Inline gallery creation allows existing users to create a new gallery without leaving the flow.
  • Keep new users engaged by asking for goal-relevant info earlier and password info later.

Flow (After)

  • The new flow accommodates both new and registered users.

Before

  • If new users want to save an item, they are forced to exit the flow, register for an account, create a new gallery in My Account, and then come back to use this feature.
  • Each step is a new page load.
  • After logging in, the window inexplicably moves to the top-left corner of the screen.
  • Confirmation is communicated via an error dialog window.
